Indulgences

An indulgence is "a remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven, which the faithful Christian who is duly disposed gains under certain prescribed conditions through the action of the Church which, as the minister of redemption, dispenses and applies with authority the treasury of the satisfactions of Christ and the saints" .  More...

"'An indulgence is partial or plenary according as it removes either part or all of the temporal punishment due to sin' [ibid., Norm 2, see Norm 3]. Indulgences may be applied to the living or the dead."

The revised Enchiridion Indulgentiarum ('Raccolta') is a delight. It is a masterpiece of renewal in the Spirit.  The Primer of the Enchidiron of Indulgences.

“For it was from the side of Christ as He slept the sleep of death upon the cross that there came forth ‘the wondrous sacrament of the whole Church’” (Sacrosanctum Concilium, no. 5). Through the merits of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection, the whole of his body, the Church, benefits from the redemption which he has won for all. Intimately connected with the Sacrament of Penance, indulgences are given by the Church from her spiritual treasury to remit temporal punishment for sin. Thus, this Manual of Indulgences opens a special door to this treasury for all the faithful."

Prayer to St. Joseph over 1900 years old

O St. Joseph whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the Throne of God, I place in you all my interests and desires. O   St. Joseph do assist me by your powerful intercession and obtain for me from your Divine Son all spiritual blessings through Jesus Christ, Our Lord; so that having engaged here below your Heavenly power I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the Loving of Fathers. O   St. Joseph, I never weary of contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms. I dare not approach you while He reposes near your heart. Press him in my name and kiss His fine Head for me, and ask Him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, Patron of departing souls, pray for us.  Amen.

Say for nine consecutive mornings for anything you may desire. It has seldom been known to fail.

A letter written by the Blessed Virgin Mary to the City of Messina where St. Paul, the Apostle preached the gospel, which has been preserved in the Reliquary of the great altar.
“I, Mary Virgin, servant of God, very humble Mother of Jesus Christ, Son of God, the Almighty and Eternity, to all who are in Messina, health and benediction in our Lord.  You have learned by the ambassadors who have been sent to you.  You received the gospel and you acknowledged that the Son of God has become man, and has suffered the passion and death for the salvation of the world, and that He is Christ and also the true Messiah.  I beseech you to persevere, promising to you, and all your posterity, to assist you in the presence of My Son.”
Mary Virgin, very humble servant of God
(Great graces are given to those who carry a copy of this letter.)
